"Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.

The first noise Evelyn was conscious of the next morning was the sound of their rooster Abraham's triumphant crowing. Er-er-er-roooo! The sun had not made it up yet, but there was a soft glow on the horizon. Thrusting back the sheets, she sat up in bed and lightly walked across the room. She paused before the tall oak wardrobe, noble in its dark simplicity. Pulling the doors open, she ran her hand caressingly over the jewel-tinted folds of fabric inside, puckering her lips with indecision. After a few moments, she chose a mint green dress with delicate embroidery around the neck and sleeves, found a diaphanous white chemise to go underneath, and sauntered off to the washroom with them draped over her arm.
